SMALL BAND AWARDS To encourage smaller schools with small bands to compete at Band Day, special awards were presented to the Top 5 scoring small bands beginning in 1980s. At that time, a small band was defined as 60 or fewer playing members from a school with enrollment in grades 9 - 12 of no more than 750 students. Beginning in 1988, the Top 8 scoring small bands received awards and, in 1989, the enrollment criteria was adjusted to 650 or fewer students. |
